PHOTOS: Canine Promenade on the Esplanade

  • October 24, 2011

Pawsh Dog Boutique and The Esplanade Association hosted the Halloween doggie event of the season on Saturday (10/22).

More than 60 pups came dressed to impress, and even some of their owners came in costume to march in the ½-mile Halloween parade on the Esplanade led by WHDH meteorologist Dylan Dreyer.  Best Costume went to Mr. Porkchop, dressed as a bunch of grapes, and Best Human/Dog costume went to the group of humans and canines who came as the cast of the Wizard of Oz! Guests also enjoyed capturing professional photos from Fred Levy of their pup in costume and enjoyed tasty treats for humans and canines!

The event supported The Esplanade Association and its efforts to restore areas of the park, including the Lotta Fountain, a six-foot granite fountain constructed in 1939 in the name of philanthropist Lotta Crabtree, for the benefit of thirsty dogs. A victim of neglect, the memorial has not functioned as a fountain for many years.  The Esplanade Association seeks to refurbish this work and to repair the waterworks so that canine visitors to the Esplanade once again can find refreshment on a hot summer’s day.
