B.A.A. 10K Street Closings for Sunday

 The following is an edited press release from the Boston Athletic Association.

This Sunday, June 24, the Boston Athletic Association hosts the 2nd Annual B.A.A. 10K.

The start and finish of the race is located at the Boston Common on Charles Street in Boston, MA; between Boylston Street and Beacon Street. The 10K begins at 8:00 a.m., followed by a series of Kids' Races at 9:00 a.m. and concluding an hour later. The awards ceremony is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. near the start and finish line at the awards stage.

Streets and roadways which comprise and abut the 10K course will be closed to vehicular traffic on the morning of June 24. Exact times of road closures and re-openings will be at the discretion of the Boston Police and Massachusetts State Police.

Street closings include:

  • Charles St. between Boylston St. and Beacon St will close before 7:00 a.m.
  • Arlington St. between Beacon St. and Boylston St. will be closed between 7:45 a.m. and 10:15 a.m.*
  • Commonwealth Ave. East and West between Arlington St. and Massachusetts Ave will be closed between 7:45 a.m. and 10:15 a.m.*
  • Berkley, Clarendon, Dartmouth, Exeter, Fairfield, Gloucester, and Hereford between Beacon and Commonwealth Ave Eastbound will be closed between 7:45 a.m. and 10:15 a.m.*
  • Commonwealth Avenue West between Kenmore Square and Babcock St will be closed between 7:45 a.m. and 9:45 a.m.*
  • Beacon St. between Kenmore Square and Charlesgate West will be closed between 7:45 a.m. and 9:45 a.m.*
  • Bay State Rd between Beacon St. and Granby St. will be closed between 7:45 a.m. and 9:45 a.m.*
  • Granby St. between Bay State Rd and Commonwealth Ave will be closed between 7:45 a.m. and 9:45 a.m.*
  • Charlesgate E and Charlesgate W between Commonwealth Ave and Beacon St. will be closed between 7:45 a.m. and 9:45 a.m.*

* abutting / adjacent streets will also be impacted.

Top athletes running include:

  • Geoffrey Mutai, 2011 Boston Marathon and defending B.A.A. 10K champion
  • Caroline Kilel, 2011 Boston Marathon and defending B.A.A. 10K champion
  • Sam Chelanga, two-time NCAA Champion and current the leader in the 2012 B.A.A. Distance Medley
  • Kim Smith, four-time NCAA Champion and 2012 London Olympian
