A complaint about the use of tea lights led to a visit from the Fire Department, and Back Bay Yoga Studio has been kicked out of it's home for past two weeks.
Supportive customers have followed instructors to temporary class locations, mainly at The Harvard Club, and they hope to move back into their 364 Boylston Street studio by the weekend.
"I am so sorry for the hassle and confusion that this has created and we are VERY grateful to have some interim space for a partial schedule to help keep things going to some degree," staff wrote in their emailed newsletter.
Facebook fans have commended the yoga studio for continuing with classes, and Back Bay Yoga has kept up a steady stream of schedule and location updates on their Facebook page.
"You guys have done an awesome job managing through this difficult time," one woman wrote on their wall. "The Harvard Club classes are such a cool experience! I know you want to get back to your space, but I'll be sad when they're over!"
The studio had to leave it's regular space about two weeks ago due to building code violations that the landlord is working to address after a visit from the Fire Department for a complaint about their use of tea lights.
"That complaint is a "trigger" and once that trigger happens the entire building becomes an open book for their review," according to the newsletter. "Of course, our building is old and not subject to current new construction code, but they can require certain updates once they are in. That is what is going on right now."
The landlord is working with contractors to add a center staircase which will allow people to enter and exit the Back Bay Yoga spaces without having to access the elevator or basement.
"The UPSIDE to this is that this is what we always wanted," Back Bay Yoga wrote, "albeit in a less destructive way to BBY and our neighbors."
