Obama out-raises Romney across the city, but loses some neighborhoods.
Boston may be Barack Obama Country, but the city isn’t without its Romney-supporting enclaves.
Overall, the president outraised his challenger by more than $500,000 in Boston through the month of May, according to Federal Elections Commission records, but his fundraising lagged behind Romney’s in a handful of neighborhoods.
The former governor built a lead in the North End Waterfront, raising about $8,000 more than Obama’s $32,000. Nearby, Romney shellacked (to use the president’s term) Obama in the North End itself. Romney’s nearly $20,000 more than tripled Obama’s $6,500.
In total, Romney outraised Obama in six of 34 zip codes used by Boston donors.
In one neighborhood, though, neither candidate got to claim the title of top fundraiser. Ron Paul pulled $2,500 from the 02123 zip code applied to some Boston University properties along Commonwealth Avenue, while both Obama and Romney earned nothing from donors there.
