Boston Man Charged with Armed Robbery on Newbury Street

Boston Police Department arrested a Boston man for armed robbery on Hemenway Street.

Boston Police arrested a Huntington Avenue resident for allegedly robbing a Newbury Street store on Saturday morning.

A store clerk told police that a short white male approached the counter at 11:16 a.m. on Saturday with a shiny object in his hands. The clerk claims that the suspect then said, “I hate to do this, but give me the money.”

The clerk was not certain if the weapon was a knife or a gun and fumbled with the cash register. The suspect then reportedly said “Hurry up, relax, take it easy.”

The clerk conducted a fake transaction, which allowed the cash drawer to open. The clerk collected the money and gave it to the suspect, who then fled out in to the streets. The clerk called 911 shortly thereafter. Police said the clerk of the store was visibly shaken up.

Officers put out the description of the suspect after they collected the description from the employees and watched the security tapes.

Later that morning, around 11:45 a.m., Boston Police officers observed a man who fit the description of the suspect on Hemenway Street. When the officer attempted to stopped the man, the suspect fled on foot towards Westland Avenue. The officer pursued the suspect, eventually tackling him to the ground, causing minor brusing to the suspect's forehead, right knee and elbow.

Back up arrived shortly after and the officer handcuffed the suspect. Michael Hasson of 307 Huntington Ave was arrested and charged with armed robbery. Boston EMS treated the suspect’s wounds and the suspect was transported to the station for processing. During the booking process, officers discovered a dried substance believed to be glue on the fingertips of the suspect.
