Five Things: Vlora, Ellen and the BPL's Retro Beach Photographs...

2. Compliments to Universal Hub for bringing our attention to the BPL's very cool collection of retro beach scenes from Massachusetts, circa 1918-1930. This one to the right of the article is from Revere Beach, 1920,and was photographed by Leslie Jones.
3. The licensing board makes its decision today about the fate of Vlora, 545 Boylston St., after several alleged liquor violations were reported as well as the services of a DJ, which the restaurant isn't licensed for either. Read more here.

4. Ellen & Portia DeGeneres were in town yesterday - our photographers didn't end up nabbing the photos we'd hoped for, but the Globe got a bunch. The comedic icon was in town to film a set of promos for her talk show, which moves into the coveted 4 p.m. slot that previously belonged to Oprah.
5. Summer weather returns as we head toward the weekend with temperatures getting back into the 80's. I, for one, am pleased... it was beginning to feel like fall.
