But also they're kinda fun, right?
Confession: I have shared many a bowl drink in my day. And you probably have too. (Unless you only drink alcohol in moderate and responsible quantities or whatever...) But at my ripe old age of almost 25, I’ve started to experience something that I think my college self would take great offense to: an aversion toward bowl drinks.
While I'm inclined to believe that my recent repugnance is not at all unfounded, I feel I owe it to my 21-year-old self to verify my feelings. So, for your enjoyment, a good old-fashioned pro and con list:
Bowl Drink Trait #1: Lots of alcohol, lots of fruit juice
Pro: Bowl drinks go down real easy if you’re a fan of sweet drinks (aka between the ages of 21-22).
Con: Hangover+coming down from a sugar high=worst morning ever. No thanks.
Pro: There’s a plethora of alcohol in there so no need to worry about sticking to the same spirit for the rest of the night. You’ve pretty much got all your bases covered.
Con: Hangover+coming down from a sugar high… you know the rest.
Bowl Drink Trait #2: Mandatorily shared by 2 or more
Pro: “You guys, isn’t it like so much fun to all drink out of the same bowl!?!”
Con: “Really, you couldn’t have fessed up about having a cold?"
Pro: Don’t have the required number of imbibers? Time to make new friends!
Con: New friends don't always get your sense of humor and might begin throwing expletives your way after a few not so subtle jokes made at their expense. (But maybe that just happens to me.)
Bowl Drink Trait #3: Cheapness
Pro: Uh, we live in Boston. Nothing's that cheap, especially alcohol.
Con: See above.
Right, I think that about spells it out. Bowl drinks are kind of horrible and should be avoided at all costs.
Unless, of course, you're looking to relive your younger, more carefree days (and you've got a full supply of aspirin and Gatorade waiting back at home.)
