Hot Off the T: Bones, Games and Laughs

Five things to do in Boston this weekend.

  1. What do you do when you plan a “Snow Day” event and it never snows? Hold a “No Snow Day” event. Take advantage of the warm winter weather and ride out to Spectacle Island for hiking, campfires, kids activities and more. The boats to the island leave at 10 a.m.. Tickets start at $14.
  2. If you’re more inclined to stay indoors, check out the Massachusetts Historical Society’s Clover Adams photo exhibit. Adams lived in Boston during the late nineteenth century and routinely took photos of the North Shore area. The society’s free exhibit of her work opens at 10 a.m.
  3. Among the many joys of living in an old city is finding places you never knew existed. King’s Chapel hosts a Bones and Bells tour Saturday. Head into the substructure of the church and check out the crypt and famous patrons buried within before tackling four flights of stairs and examining a Paul Revere-made bell—the largest he ever made. Tours leave hourly between 10:30 a.m. and 3 p.m., and tickets are $8. Call ahead to secure a place in a tour.
  4. You can have some fun and do some good at North Star Bar Saturday at noon. The pub is hosting the Playing for Pups Cornhole Tournament, and all proceeds go to the Animal Recue League of Boston. The Horseshoe-like fun starts at noon. It’s $25 per person, per two-person team, and the winners walk away with $150.
  5. Looking for a laugh? Then make yourself a Hot Pocket for a quick dinner before watching Jim Gaffigan’s stand up Saturday at the Wilbur Theater. Tickets for both the 7 p.m. and 9:45 p.m. shows start at $39.
