Photo Gallery: Junior League of Boston's Annual Gala

More than 450 people gathered at the Fairmont Copley Plaza to support the volunteer womens' organization.

More than 450 people came together over the weekend to enjoy drinks and dancing at the 's annual fundraiser. 

Established in 1906, the league is a volunteer organization of women that work to educate other women, and resolve community problems and needs in the Boston area.

The gala, held Saturday night at the , is the league's largest fundraiser. It raked in $55,000 in ticket sales alone, and organizers are still counting proceeds from the live and silent auction. They hope to raise close to $300,000, said public relations manager PJ Foster.

It's also one of the league's oldest fundraisers.

"We actually can't document how long this has been going on for, because we think it's over 50 years," Foster said.

The organization was established by a group of young women who came together to knit uniforms and backpacks for soldiers. Over the past 100 years, it's grown to become the second-oldest chapter of the Association of Junior Leagues International, Inc., an organization of 293 chapters in the United States, Canada, Mexico, and England.

Today, there's a strong focus on nutrition and wellness.
