Plan Your Fourth on the Esplanade

Here are five things you need to know for June 28.

 

1. Weather: Mostly sunny today, with a high near 86. The evening will be partly cloudy, with a low around 68.

2. Get ready for the Fourth of July with Jennifer Hudson headlining the annual celebration on the Esplanade. From Boston Pops-backed fireworks to porta-potties, here's all you need to know to plan your Independence Day festivities July 3 and 4.

3. Boston City Council: The City Council will meet to discuss concussions and other sports-related injuries in the Boston Schools in a Working Session beginning at 11 a.m. at Boston City Hall

4. Third Annual Thomas Jefferson Lecture: join Hugh Howard, author of “Dr. Kimball and Mr. Jefferson: Rediscovering the Founding Fathers of American Architecture” at the Massachusetts Historical Society. Howard will speak on Fiske Kimball, a writer, scholar and museum director who recovered Thomas Jefferson’s architectural genius. This event is free of charge and begins at 6 p.m.

5. WFNX Downtown Boston Block-Party: Live bands and a cash bar for folks 21 and older at Summer St. Pedestrian Zone. Entry to this event is free. Come and enjoy live music and a great atmosphere after a long day of work from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.
