Suspect arrested late Wednesday evening...

Police caught the man they say robbed Cambridge Trust late Wednesday afternoon.

Patrick Cannon, 54, of Boston, was arrested at 11:27 p.m on Yawkey Way and Van Ness Street, after police tracked him there.

Cannon will be charged with armed robbery of a bank, armed robbery while masked, and being a fugitive from justice on an outstanding warrant for violation of parole for bank robbery.

Police say that bank employees reported that a man came into the bank around 5:20 p.m. armed with a gun and told employees he would shoot them if they moved.

Police later found a car in a garage at 47 Symphony Road with evidence inside connecting the suspect to the bank robbery. Using the evidence and footage from a surveillance video, officers were able to ascertain the identity of the suspect and passed out a leaflet advisory with the Cannon’s description and picture.

Around 10:44 p.m., security officers told Boston police that Cannon had returned to the garage looking for his car, which the police had towed.

Security officers said that Cannon hurriedly left the garage upon realizing that his car had been recovered. They attempted to follow the him but lost him in the area of Massachusetts Avenue and Boylston Street.

A short time later around 11:03 p.m., officers on patrol in the area of Yawkey Way and Van Ness Street observed a suspect matching the description.

Cannon was arrested and during the booking process found to be in possession of the backpack that the security officers stated that the suspect had in his possession in addition to a large amount of money possibly from the bank robbery, according to the BPD blog.

The suspect will be arraigned today at Boston Municipal Court.

Wednesday's robbery marked the third time Cambridge Trust has been robbed since May.
