Sneak Preview: Georgetown Cupcake Opening
The cupcake shop held a special event on Thursday, and opens to the public Saturday at noon. Customers receive one free cupcake all day long!
Sisters and co-owners Sophie LaMontagne and Katherine Kallinis, stars of TLC’s DC Cupcakes, celebrated the private opening of Georgetown Cupcake on 83 Newbury Street in style.
Invited guests enjoyed mini samples and champage. The room was packed with business people, food bloggers and more. The shop opens to the public on Saturday at noon, and customer receive one free cucpake all day long.
This is the third location for the sister. In addition to the Washington D.C. original, they opened just opened in SoHo in New York, and are opening in Los Angeles in September.
"We try to capture the spirit of the neighborhood we're in," LaMontagne said. The architecture on Newbury Street isn't far from that of the Georgetown original, and there's an acelectic, classy feel to the place.
"I think it's really exciting for Boston to have a famous cupcakery," said Katie Abarr, a South Boston resident. Georgetown Cupcake joins Sweet as a Newbury Street shop specializing in the dessert.
"I feel like the cupcake market is saturated, but I think Georgetown is going to pull in business because of the name."
However, as everyone who was there can attest, the flavors don't hurt either.
"Peanutbutter fudge," said Yvonica Grandchamps of Roslindale, "made my eyes light up."
