Trees in Copley Square Trimmed Due to Disease

The city will spend $30,000 to replace them.

The tops of 20 London plane trees in Copley Square have been trimmed because they're infected with canker stain fungal infection, and the city will spend $30,000 to replace them.

The Boston Parks and Recreation Department and The Friends of Copley Square met last Wednesday to for a public hearing on the issue, and experts agreed it needed to be done before the disease spreads to the other trees. 

Signs were also attached to the tree trucks to educate residents and answer questions.
