Normally I’m a bit of a snob when it comes to cocktails. No premade mixes for this girl. Cocktail time at my place means the juicer is coming out and you better believe the lavender simple syrup I’m using is homemade.
But there is always an exception to the rule and for me that comes in the form of what I like to call The Poor Man’s Margarita.
The Poor Man’s Margarita contains everything I usually don’t like in a cocktail: frozen concentrate, sugary soda and super cheap tequila. There’s also beer. Corona to be exact. I know, right? Sounds terrible. But The Poor Man’s Margarita is not terrible. It’s actually kind of amazing, both in it’s deliciousness and it’s simplicity.
Let’s talk about the simplicity part first.
The Poor Man’s Margarita contains only five easily-found ingredients:
- limeade frozen concentrate
- lemon-lime soda
- cheap tequila
- a Corona
- ice
Oh, and you need a pitcher and cups. That’s it.
And it requires that you follow only five easy steps:
1) Dump the limeade frozen concentrate in the pitcher.
2) Fill up the concentrate container with soda. Dump that in.
3) Fill up the concentrate container with tequila. Dump that in.
4) Pop a Corona. Dump that in.
5) Pour mixture in ice-filled cups.
Done!
Now as far as the delicious part goes, you should know that every time I have served these margaritas, I have been asked for the recipe. And I’m serving them at my 4th of July party this year, just as I do every year, because if I didn’t, there might be some sort of riot. Really.
But don’t take my word for it, try them yourself. Just make sure you’ve got the recipe memorized - you will be asked for it.
