Berklee Rainbow Band: A Lifetime of Great Music

Berklee has been famous for its jazz program as long as the college has been in existence. The internationally acclaimed Berklee Rainbow Band, who has continued to perform for 46 years, remains one of the top college jazz bands anywhere in the world. On Wednesday, December 14th at 8:15 pm, the Berklee Performance Center audience will be wowed by a great evening of jazz, provided by Berklee College of Music’s finest.

Directed by Berklee professor and world-renowned trombonist Phil Wilson, the top-rated student musicians and vocalists will perform music from the great American jazz songbook. Before becoming a member of the Berklee faculty 46 years ago, Wilson was an esteemed cutting-edge trombonist and a big band arranger. Having recorded with famous jazz artists such as Louis Armstrong, Tony Bennett and the Dorsey Brothers, he continues perform as a trombone soloist worldwide and has presented clinics at universities on five continents. And if that’s not impressive enough, Boston Mayor Thomas Menino declared December 9th as an honorary Phil Wilson Day in 1995.

The show starts at 8:15 on December 14th at the Berklee Performance Center. Tickets are $8 in advance (discount applied at checkout) and $12 the day of the show, and are available at berkleebpc.com. If you’re at all into jazz, or even if you’re not, you’re not going to want to miss this awesome night, not only because the Berklee Rainbow Band will rock the BPC with hip jazzy tunes, but also to witness of Phil Wilson’s success as a trombonist, arranger and now band director.
