Traffic shuts down tomorrow night as fashion hits the street during Fashion's Night Out. Models will strut their stuff on a catwalk at Center Stage at Exeter and Newbury Streets in the Back Bay.
One of Boston's hottest young designers, Britt Eldridge, will be showing eight gorgeous looks from her fall collection during a fashion show beginning at 6.30 p.m. at Center Stage.
Eldridge, owner of Britt Ryan, located at 291 Newbury Street, says each one of her designs begins with a great fabric such as silk and the use of color.
Her pieces are modern and classic at the same time and work for young women in their 20s, 30s, 40s and beyond. The use of color is brilliant - never overshadowing but enhancing each piece.
Eldridge, a petite woman with an infectious smile and passion for fashion, grew up in upstate New York and was inspired by her mother.
"My mother was a great seamstress and taught me how to sew. She also worked in the fashion industry," said Eldridge.
Eldridge left a career in television to open a specialty boutique called Isabella with her mother in Cazenovia, New York.
After a few years she moved to Boston and started working for a local fashion company. She learned the fashion business from the ground up-from conception to production and everything in between.
After learning the business she ventured out on her own to open Britt Ryan, a combination of a nickname and a family name.
Eldridge is very proud of the fact that all of her pieces are manufactured in the United States. Her collections are carried in boutiques in just about every state in the country.
What's the one piece every woman should have in her wardrobe? Eldridge says a great dress that fits perfectly and makes a woman feel their most beautiful and a fabulous pair of shoes.
She definitely doesn't believe in disposable clothing.
"I think women should invest in pieces that last 20 years, not 20 minutes."
She thinks women in Boston have been getting a bad rap by being labelled dowdy and too conservative.
"We definitely suffer from having to dress for the weather," she said.
Eldridge has seen stores come and go over the past few years and is delighted that more boutiques are moving into the area and big chain stores are moving out.
Stop by Britt Ryan for a chance to win first prize - a $300 gift certificate.
