Quincy Jones: a household name, an icon. As the leading voice of modern American music since his years as a student at Berklee College of Music in the 1950s, who doesn’t recognize his name?
Jones may have started out as a music enthusiast and trumpeter, but over the years has gone on to produce, arrange, conduct, compose, and perform. He has arranged for Dizzy Gillespie and Frank Sinatra; produced Michael Jackson, Miles Davis, and Ray Charles; scored numerous Oscar-winning films; and received 27 Grammy Awards.
On Sunday, February 24th, the Signature Music Series at Berklee presents The Great American Songbook: The Music of Quincy Jones. The show features Berklee students and faculty, as well as special guests Siedah Garrett and Patti Austin, who pay tribute to “Q” with new arrangements of his enduring music in honor of his 80th birthday.
I don’t know about you, but with the amount of enthusiasm that surrounds Quincy Jones’ name and his music at Berklee, there is no doubt in my mind that this show is going to be nothing less than phenomenal. So grab your tickets and join me in a celebration of Jones’ music and his legacy to witness some of Berklee’s finest talent pay tribute to this leading man.
