It will be just the second brick-and-mortar store for the 'stylish and socially conscious' eyewear company.
Warby Parker. Ever heard of it? If not, not to worry; it's an eyewear company that might be described as hip with a side of social conscience. And the mostly-online brand is about to open only its second permanent brick-and-mortar store on Boston's Newbury Street, reports the Boston Globe. Warby Parker is the work of Wellesley-born Jeffrey Raider and three other Wharton graduates. (The Globe points out that the company has several local ties besides Raider, including being named for Jack Kerouac (from Lowell) characters and Neil Blumenthal, co-founder and co-CEO of Warby Parker, who is an alum of Tufts University in Medford.) The Boston Globe story has a nice Q&A with Raider, who also has just launched a brand-new startup called Harry's.

The Fenway neighborhood will play host to a large-scale fundraising event for the One Fund next week, known as Boston Bites Back. Nearly 100 of Boston's top chefs will be coming together to present a special culinary tasting event at Fenway Park on May 15 in order to raise $1 million for The One Fund. The event is spearheaded by celeb chefs Ken Oringer and Ming Tsai, the Boston Red Sox, Governor Patrick, Mayor Menino, and ARAMARK. Here are five high-performance vehicles for sale in the area.
Sports cars and the people who drive them have taken a bit of a beating in popular culture these last few years. Movie geeks look at a hood scoop and drawl "I live my life a quarter mile at a time" in their deepest Vin Diesel voice. Cynics hear the growl of a high-end exhaust and draw anatomical conclusions about the owner. But all the ribbing doesn't change one fact: High-performance cars are wicked fun to drive. Big block beast, small block tuner, or high-end euro ride, the power and handling can't be matched by an efficient Prius or sensible minivan. Here are five local cars for sale that will give you the growl, grip and go that (deep down inside) you really want: 2014 Ford Mustang, $26,849: When introduced in the 1960's, the Ford …

Located in the former Borders building, the store features pharmacy, beauty, groceries, wine and beer, sushi, smoothies and more.
A new kind of Walgreens opened in Downtown Crossing this week—a “flagship” store featuring a pharmacy section with classic and express options as well as other departments offering fresh food, wine and beer, sushi, coffee, a smoothie bar and beauty supplies with interactive displays. Located at the corner of School and Washington streets in the former Borders building, the new Walgreens involved complete renovation of the site, which many years ago housed the Five Cents Savings Bank. “Walgreens is thrilled to provide a flagship location—unlike any traditional drugstore—in the thriving and resilient Downtown Crossing neighborhood,” Mark Wagner, Walgreens president of operations and community management, said in a statement. “We are …
