About this column:

Fashion blogger, vintage collector and thrift store specialist Amanda Dugay Forrester is on the lookout for average people, with above average style.
I spotted Christopher and was thrilled to see a young man with such spot-on style in Boston.  He explained he was on his way to New York the very next morning to begin studying fashion merchandising at FIT-- this is no surprise considering his eye for line and color.  He names Rick Owens, YSL, and Proenza Schouler as favorites.  Here Christopher wears a sweater from The Finer Consigner in Newton, pants by Current/Elliott, boots from Barneys Co-op, and a Proenza Schouler bag.
I spotted Justin while I was biking along Commonwealth Ave. and screeched to a halt to speak with him.  It's a bit rare when I find a Boston lad who dresses with such panache.  He describes his hip style as a "modern take on old-school Boston Brahmin."  Here he sports a borrowed hat, scarf found at an open market in Spain, Ralph Lauren jacket, Zara shirt, Acne shorts, Bobby from Boston belt, watch bought off of Gilt Groupe, shoes by Jack Purcell for Converse, and bag from Barneys.
I spotted aspiring fashion designer Tala on Newbury Street and stopped her to admire her white lace-up booties. She named “randomness” as her primary fashion m.o., as evidenced by her unexpected combination of elements.  Here she pairs leather shoes and a suede tank top from Saks, bag from Urban Outfitters, rope-like necklace from Banana Republic, and stunning silk shorts she found at Louis Boston.
What a fantastic fashion coup it was for me when I ran into fashion blogger Chloe on Newbury Street in a perfect hip summer outfit.  I gushed about her 80s top from Beacon's Closet that she had masterfully paired with ripped Levi's denim shorts. She topped it off with fantastic platform sandals, neon fingernails, and a thrifted bag. Chloe, as many of today's hippest fashion girls also note, is deeply in love with the Victorian era. Not surprisingly, she also lists the 80s as a main go-to era when she's out shopping.
Lydia's red patent leather accessories caught my eye as she was leaving work on Newbury Street. She notes magazines such as Vogue, Marie Claire, and In Style as good places to glean a multitude of views on what is fashionable. Here she wears an Ann Taylor cardigan and sequined tank top, skirt from Forever 21, belt from Gap, and Enzo Angiolini pumps from Nordstrom.
When I spotted local model Ondi's bold necklace I stopped her to inquire about it-- she found it locally at the Allston shop Lola's Urban Vintage.  I then asked where she gets her fashion inspiration from, and she replied "I wear what appeals to me viscerally-- if my heart likes it, I wear it."  What better way to make fashion choices? Here Ondi also is wearing a top, jacket, and leggings all from H&M.
When I spotted local stylist Christen, she was wearing a perfect example of cute and comfortable summer style.  She said she woke up that day wanting to wear her new romper and built her outfit around that piece-- a tactic she often employs when creating looks.  Here she is wearing a Topshop romper, Rubbish denim jacket, Aldo sandals, glasses bought off a street vendor, and a bag from the Etsy shop SabrinaTach.
This week I spotlight Samantha, the last but not least of the Beckerman sisters who I was lucky enough to meet on Newbury Street a few weeks ago.  From looking at the sister's blog Beckerman Bite Plate, their inspirations are found everywhere from Jackson Pollock to tag sales.  Here Samantha wears a Betsey Johnson bag, vintage jacket from the Chelsea Flea Market, necklace by Steven Anton Rehage, plaid vintage shirt, sweater by Juicy Couture, harem pants by L'Agence, and boots by Chloe Sevigny for Opening Ceremony.
This week I am putting up my recent photo of Caillianne Beckerman, another of the famous three fashion designing and blogging Beckerman sisters. As I mentioned in last week's "Spotted" article, I caught the sisters en route to the May session of the Brimfield Fair.  Caillianne lists flea markets as a prime place to gather fashion inspiration.  Here she mixed assorted knit layers to create a funky and comfortable look.  She's wearing a vintage Junko Koshino sweater coat, a vintage leopard-print sweater,  leggings from H&M, boots by Chloe Sevingny for Opening Ceremony, Betsey Johnson bag, and …
I hit the jackpot when I ran into the famous three fashion maven Beckerman sisters whom I spotted refueling with coffee on Newbury Street en route to a trip to the Brimfield Antique Show. Here, sister Chloe shows us how to look lovely when the weather is not.  Chloe, who lives in California says she is most inspired by "old prints and patterns, fashion blogs, and the beach."  Here she sports a J. Crew hat, vintage coat, Marc Jacobs umbrella, graphic bag by Roberta di Camerino, and vintage Justin boots. Stay tuned for pictures of the other two stunning Beckerman sisters in the next two weeks.
How could I not stop Rebecca in her tracks to admire her colorful ensemble?  As a member of the Betsey Johnson sales team on Newbury Street, Rebecca is constantly inspired by the vibrant and girly merchandise.  She says she dresses quite differently from day to day: sometimes it's a goth look, other times her look leans toward Victorian. Here Rebecca's outfit screams "spring pin-up model."  She is wearing a hat and dress from Buffalo Exchange, shoes from Macy's, bag from Marshalls, and tops it off with Betsey Johnson sunglasses and bright red lipstick.
I spotted Debbie's hair and colorful outfit from a distance and had to stop her to remark on her style. As a Bay State Fashion Merchandising student, she is surrounded by constant inspiration.  In addition, Debbie cites hip hop artists Pharrell Williams and Kid Cudi as personal fashion icons.  Here Debbie's bright ensemble includes a shirt from Hot Topic, belt from Journeys, H&M sweater, Dots jeans, backpack from Pac Sun, shoes by X Squared Boston, "No Name" watch, and glasses from American Apparel.
I stopped to snap a photo of Amy because I was particuarly drawn to the color, pattern and texture of her top half.  Amy works as a freelance product stylist and designer and her outfit is rife with the same charm and aritstic touches that her portfolio exudes.  Here she wears a velvet scarf and Swedish Hasbeens boots from Portobello Road, a Daughters of the Revolution tunic and Spiewak coat from Flock Boutique, AG jeans, repurposed vintage and Alkemie jewelry, and carries a Manhattan Portage bag.
I had to photograph Emerson College student Madi after I spotted her fabulous printed skirt.  She says she looks to fashion rebels like Gwen Stefani and Debbie Harry for fashion inspiration, "because they wear what they want and don't care what people think about them." Here Madi is wearing a Chloe bag, American Apparel shirt, jacket from Urban Outfitters, skirt from Anthropologie, Hue tights, and boots from Nordstrom.
I ran into Anne outside The Closet and knew I had to shoot her incredibly chic ensemble. She says she frequents the store often for designer finds and also collects vintage and new jewelry which often finishes off many of her outfits. Anne names interior design sites as inspiration for her life and her fashion.  Here she pairs Marc Jacobs sunglasses, a necklace from Holiday Boutique, a Vero Moda jacket, two layered Michael Stars shirts, an Etro scarf, Seven jeans, Geox boots, and Treesje bag.
I stopped Christopher to comment on his amazing red eyeglasses and to pet his dogs Ruby and Orange.  Vibrant eyeglass hues are everywhere right now and just in time for spring.  Here Christopher pairs a simple look of parka and jeans but tops it off with a heightened level of high style and a splash of eye-catching color.  He says his girlfriend, who is a visual merchandiser for many local businesses, inspires his style - she will often pair random items from unlikely sources like the Salvation Army with items from high-end boutiques to create her original looks. Christopher's glasses are …
I spotted Emily and thought she looked comfortable yet cute and bohemian.  She explained that most of what she's wearing came from her travels around the world. She cites Janis Joplin as a stepping off place for her often 70s-inspired looks, although these days Emily says she aims to take her 'hippie' looks to a more refined and professional level without losing the artistic touches.  Emily's earrings were found from a street vendor in Berlin and are made from Mexican bottlecaps. She found her scarf from a street vendor in Italy, her jeans were found at a boutique in Spain, her jacket is by …
I spotted Holly while she was on a break from her occasional weekend job as salon assistant at Bradley + Diegel.  Her cream-colored cape caught my eye first, particuarly because I thought it the perfect spring layering piece.  I also liked the way she used color-blocking: light on top (including her white-blonde hair), and dark on the bottom.  Here Holly wears Warby Parker glasses, necklaces from ASOS and Allsaints, a handmade feather charm, a H&M sweater and cape,  Forever 21 leggings and Jessica Simpson shoes. She says she always tries to incorporate "whimsy" and "edge" into every one of …
When I spotted Michael I was not only wowed by his clothing but by his height and stunning bone structure.  He reminded me immediately of a male Grace Jones.  Not surprising, Michael named yet another famous 80s fashion icon as inspiration: stylish and goofy Ducky from John Hughes' Pretty In Pink.  Michael found his jacket at the new Buffalo Exchange in Allston, his sweater (worn as a scarf) at American Apparel, his shirt and leggings at H&M, and his boots are by TUK.
I found Hope on Newbury and was drawn to her bright yellow bag.  She said she's drawn to and inspired most by photos of people. And she sees and takes many during her photography class at Colby College, where she's currently enrolled as an English major. Hope is also a fashion blog fiend and named Studded Hearts as a favorite.  She found her gray hat and yellow studded bag at LF, her black pashmina is borrowed from her dad, her coat is Lululemon, her jeggings are by William Rast, and her boots are Jeffrey Campbell.
