  memoir\,  Sidonia's Thread: The Secrets of a Mother and Daughter Sewing
  a New  Life in America.\nWhen Hanna and her mother came to Massachusett
 s\, they knew no one in America  except each other. Determined to craft 
 a life of pride\, self-reliance and  perseverance\, Sidonia taught Hanna
  to &ldquo\;stand up straight&rdquo\; in fashion and in  life. Sidonia's
  Thread is an exploration of their life together\, even  as Sidonia guar
 ded her personal life from her daughter.  But as Hanna uncovers  her mot
 her's closely-kept secrets\, her surprising discoveries inspire a revise
 d  view of her life with her mother\, replacing her conflicting emotions
  with true  reverence.\nHanna was born in Bergen Belsen\, Germany as a d
 isplaced person after World  War II. Assigned to immigrate to Springfiel
 d\, Massachusetts in 1949\, along with  her mother Sidonia\, she resided
  in Springfield until after her graduation from  the University of Massa
 chusetts with a Bachelor&rsquo\;s Degree in Psychology at age  twenty.\n
