The Top of the Hub Pub currently features the jazz music of the Bob Nieske Band and the Marty Ballou trio.
Heralded by the Boston Phoenix for "airy, intimate, and lyrical free jazz," the Bob Nieske Band is a favorite of many Top of the Hub regulars. Known for playful, captivating improvisation, Nieske's compositions have been performed around the world by his own groups, the Either Orchestra and Jimmy Giuffre 4.
Marty Ballou is a sought after session man, performing on recordings in all genres of jazz, blues, folk, and pop, including Sax Gordon's Have Horn Will Travel, Dave Maxwell's Maximum Blues Piano, and Greg Piccolo's Homage. He's recorded with jazz legends Jay McShann, Jimmy Witherspoon, and Herb Ellis, and performed at the Monterey Jazz Festival and San Francisco Jazz and Blues Festival. His trio now performs regularly at Top of the Hub.
