FISHER COLLEGE HOSTS FIRST “STOP HUNGER NOW” MEAL PACKAGING EVENT IN BOSTON, STUDENTS VOLUNTEER SPRING BREAK TO HABITAT FOR HUMANITY

Fisher College is pleased to announce that they will hold the first ever Stop Hunger Now meal packaging event in Massachusetts on Thursday, February 28 from 4-7pm at Fisher’s Alumni Hall, 116 Beacon Street, Boston. Additionally, a group of Fisher College students will volunteer their spring break to repair and rebuild homes with Habitat for Humanity in New Bern, North Carolina.

Fisher College will be the first college in New England to host a Stop Hunger Now meal packaging event, as well as the first site to hold an event in Massachusetts. Stop Hunger Now is an international hunger relief organization that coordinates worldwide food distribution to those in need. The packaging event will involve an assembly line of people putting together nutrient-filled, ready-made meals that can be distributed to people in the Horn of Africa, Central America, and Haiti. Fisher College students, faculty, and staff will be assembling over 10,000 meals for their first Stop Hunger New meal packaging event. If anyone would like to contribute they can do so here:

Fisher College students will also be participating in Habitat for Humanity’s Collegiate Challenge for the fourth consecutive year. Fisher advisors Dr. Ann Clarke and Josh McKain have taken 12 to 17 students annually to rebuild homes with Habitat for Humanity and to experience the culture in locations including Tampa Bay, Florida; Macon, Georgia; and El Paso, Texas. Fisher College generously covers the cost of airfare, meals, and van rentals for all participating students. There will be 13 students attending this year’s trip to New Bern, North Carolina. Fisher students will also be doing their first local Habitat for Humanity venture in Lawrence, MA also over Spring Break in March.

“Stop Hunger Now and Habitat for Humanity have valued missions that Fisher College is very proud to be a part of,” states Dr. Thomas M. McGovern, President of Fisher College. “Each year we have an exceptional amount of students that volunteer their time to different organizations to help create a difference both locally and globally. These experiences are memorable and life-altering for these students.”
