Back-Bay Resident Selected to Speak at Europe's Largest Professional's-Only Game Industry Event

Orange County, CA native and Back Bay resident, Richard Ludlow, a graduate of Fountain Valley High School and a rising senior at Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA, has been selected to present at the Game Developers Conference (GDC) the largest professionals-only game industry event in Europe, this August in Cologne, Germany.  The GDC European branch of the conference will feature lectures, sessions, and exhibitions by some of the top individuals and studios in the industry from around the world.  Becoming a speaker at GDC Europe requires a lengthy review and selection process.  Ludlow had to submit a proposal for evaluation, and his past experiences, credits, and speaking history had to be reviewed.

His presentation is titled “Indie Audio: A Guide to Successful Outsourcing,” and focuses on educating indie game developers to help inform them about best practices for hiring and working with audio professionals.  The 3-day conference spans from August 19-21, and is held in conjunction with Gamescom, the world’s largest games trade fair event.  Ludlow will stay in Germany for 5 days to present, attend the conference, and part of Gamescom.

Ludlow is also the founder and CEO of Hexany Audio, a company he co-founded at Berklee at the beginning of 2012 with three of the best composers and sound designers he knew.  Hexany has been involved with a number of projects, including audio design for an iPad book for James Patterson’s SantaKid: A Holiday Adventure, and an upcoming unannounced project with a Singapore-based company involving audio work.

Upon graduating Berklee with a dual degree in Electronic Production and Design and Film Scoring, he plans to reside permanently in L.A. where he is currently considering several positions, including the strong possibility of making Hexany a brick-and-mortar studio.
