Boston-Area TEDx Conference To Kick-Off Another Year-Round, Multi-Venue Idea Laboratory for Innovators of All Ages

TEDxBeaconStreet now open for attendance registration

BOSTON November 14, 2013 - Starting November 16, more than 60 of the most inspiring minds and performers will come together at TEDxBeaconStreet for a two-day conference dedicated to Ideas in Action at the Lincoln School in Brookline, designed in the model of the world-famous annual TED Event.

TEDxBeaconStreet, which will be live-steamed, will act as an anchor live-stream site for TEDxYouth Day and will be simulcast at Google in Cambridge and The Brookline Teen Center. The event is a unique TEDx event in that it is free, embraces all ages, and kicks off a completely innovative year-round Adventures program, now in its second year.

Adventures are free, unparalleled, behind-the-scenes field trips and events that offer access to the people, places and ideas that make Greater Boston so dynamic. Based on the belief that ideas get traction only when communities and families are personally involved, and ideas are made real and accessible, TEDxBeaconStreet speakers, as well as audience members extend the conference by hosting Adventures throughout the year. The schedule will be posted to the tedxbeaconstreet.com website after the event.

TEDx organizers from 20 states and 15 countries will attend the conference to learn the Adventures format with the goal of furthering the mission of Ideas in Action in their own communities around the world.

“Adventures truly turn our community into a laboratory where ideas can continue to evolve and spread beyond the conference itself,” said TEDxBeaconStreet founder and TED veteran John Werner of Brookline, MA. “We hope to establish a new standard that can be recreated and tailored to fit a wide range of communities so the light of many beacons can be seen around the world.”

The conference on November 16 and 17 will feature speakers ranging from a leading Undersea Scientist, a NASCAR driver, a founder of Life is Good, the President of Fidelity Investments, a Hollywood writer, musicians, and a range of business, technology, and design thought leaders. TEDxBeaconStreet 2012 talks have garnered more than 4 million views and counting. This year, conference organizers expect the 2013 talks to drive 10 million+ views.

New this year is a unique partnership with Google Solve for X, interactive sessions designed to encourage and amplify technology-based moonshot thinking and collaboration.  Moderated by Google, attendees will brainstorm significant societal problems and pose radical solutions leveraging breakthrough technology.

In addition, chef, cookbook author and restaurateur Jasper White will bring his Food is Love Summer Shack menu to the conference.

About TEDxBeaconStreet

Started in 2012, TEDxBeaconStreet is one of the most innovative TEDx events in the world. Widely recognized in the TED and TEDx community for our unique vision, multi-generational emphasis, diverse and open audience, Ideas in Action theme, and Adventures throughout the year, it is our aspiration to be a Laboratory / Test Kitchen bringing innovation to the TED world. By valuing the audience as much as the speakers, a powerful community has emerged, dedicated to lifelong learning and taking ideas into action.

About TEDx

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and regulations.)

About TED

TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. Started as a four-day conference in California 26 years ago, TED has grown to support those world-changing ideas with multiple initiatives. At TED, the world's leading thinkers and doers are asked to give the talk of their lives in 18 minutes. Talks are then made available, free, at TED.com. TED speakers have included Bill Gates, Jane Goodall, Elizabeth Gilbert, Sir Richard Branson, Benoit Mandelbrot, Philippe Starck, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Isabel Allende and former UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown. Two major TED events are held each year: The TED Conference takes place every spring in Long Beach, California (along with a parallel conference, TEDActive, in Palm Springs), and TEDGlobal is held each summer in Edinburgh, Scotland.

TED’s media initiatives include TED.com, where new TEDTalks are posted daily; the new TED Conversations, enabling broad conversations among TED fans; and the Open Translation Project, which provides subtitles and interactive transcripts as well as the ability for any TEDTalk to be translated by volunteers worldwide.

TED has established the annual TED Prize, where exceptional individuals with a wish to change the world are given the opportunity to put their wishes into action; TEDx, which offers individuals or groups a way to host local, self-organized events around the world; and the TED Fellows program, helping world-changing innovators from around the globe to become part of the TED community and, with its help, amplify the impact of their remarkable projects and activities.
