First Ever Master's Degree Students to Graduate from Berklee in Valencia, Spain
Berklee College of Music, the world’s leading college for contemporary music education, announces that 74 students from 27 different countries will be the first-ever to graduate from its inaugural master’s programs launched in September 2012 at its new international campus in Valencia, Spain. The graduates will be awarded degrees in one of three programs: Contemporary Performance; Global Entertainment and Music Business; and Scoring for Film, Television, and Video Games.
The graduation takes place on Monday, July 15, 2013, at Berklee’s Valencia campus, located in the iconic building of the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofia in Valencia, Spain. The ceremony will be attended by family and friends of the graduates, Berklee faculty and staff, and Berklee President Roger Brown and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost Larry Simpson.

Spanish composer José María Cano will be the keynote speaker at the event. Cano is founding member of the highly successful Spanish pop band Mecano and renowned for national and international hits including an opera recorded by Plácido Domingo.

As part of the graduation celebrations, there will also be a concert on Sunday, July 14 featuring performances by many of the graduating students.
Established as a hub for those wishing to pursue an international career in the music industry, Berklee in Valencia provides the environment, ground-breaking facilities, excellent faculty and experience for top musicians to further develop their skills and achieve their potential. Highlights of the program included a two-week trip to Los Angeles, where the Scoring for Film, Television, and Video Games students recorded their original scores atWarner Brothers studios; a trip to France to attend MIDEM, the leading music business industry event, and participation in Rethink Music for the Global Entertainment and Music Business students; and for the Contemporary Performance students, appearances in several professional concerts, galas, and international festivals around the country.

Each of them has spent an intensive year honing and developing their musical and entrepreneurial skills in preparation to meet the challenges and succeed in today’s international music industry,” explained Guillermo Cisneros, Vice President for Global Initiatives, Berklee College of Music and Executive Director, Berklee in Valencia.

A new class of graduate students begin the program in September, 2013, when a fourth master’s degree led by Stephen Webber, Music Technology Innovation, launches.
Berklee in Valencia is the first international campus established by the renowned Berklee College of Music - and its first campus outside of Boston. Located in the iconic building of the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofia in Valencia, Spain, the magnificent 3,600 square metre campus has been designed specifically for music and is equipped with state-of-the art technology. Berklee in Valencia aims to provide a hub to launch the careers across the globe for the most musically talented international students. Offering a unique curriculum, as well as an International Career Center to assist students in their transition from student to music professional, the campus presents Berklee College of Music’s first graduate master’s degree programs in contemporary music (Scoring for Film, Television and Video Games; Contemporary Studio Performance; and Global Entertainment and Music Business;) launched in September 2012, as well as the new master program: Music Technology and Innovation, to be launched in September 2013. In addition, Berklee in Valencia offers a Global Studies Program for Berklee students from Boston to study for a term at Valencia, Summer and Special Programs, as well as a new way for musicians around the world to join the global music community – as performers, as practitioners, and as leaders.
