First Lady of the Virgin Islands Coming to Town to Support Mayoral Hopeful Charlotte Golar Richie

First Lady of the Virgin Islands, Cecile de Jongh, is coming to Boston to support Charlotte Golar Richie’s campaign for Mayor.

First Lady de Jongh, the wife of Governor John de Jongh, met Charlotte when de Jongh was the Co-Director of Massachusetts/USVI Women for Obama.  She, Richie and other well-known and respected women throughout Massachusetts, worked with Governor Patrick and his wife Diane in the 2008 campaign for Obama, campaigning and fundraising across the country.

“I witnessed Charlotte’s strong leadership potential then,” said First Lady de Jongh, “and when I learned that she was running for Mayor, I saw the opportunity to support her because she is exactly the kind of visionary and accomplished leader Boston needs.”

First Lady de Jongh will march with Richie in the Caribbean Festival and Parade, which begins at 1:00 pm on MLK Boulevard in Roxbury.  Richie, who is of Bajan and African-American roots, will carry both the flag of Barbados and America as she marches.

First Lady de Jongh will join Richie earlier in the morning on her Saturday walk where she will visit locally owned businesses including restaurants, barbershops and beauty salons.  Richie also plans to take First Lady de Jongh on a tour of Boston housing. The day will also include two evening fundraisers and a final break for dinner at a restaurant and bar that serves Caribbean cuisine.

“I am honored that First Lady de Jongh is coming to Boston to support my campaign for Mayor and that we will march together to honor our Caribbean roots in one of the nation’s largest parades,” said Richie.
