Local Nonprofit and Will Middlebrooks Team Up to Keep Kids in the Game

Good Sports—a Boston-based nonprofit that provides athletic equipment to community organizations and promotes healthy, active lifestyles to disadvantaged youth—teamed up with Red Sox third baseman Will Middlebrooks to donate more than $2,000 worth of athletic equipment and apparel to the Bird Street Community Center on Thursday, January 9th, 2014.

Middlebrooks ran a skills demonstration, took photos with the kids, and signed autographs.

With a small budget that has hindered the expansion of its athletic programs, the Bird Street Community Center struggles to provide equipment for its youth, the majority of which come from low-income homes. In support of their commitment to providing a safe environment for underprivileged youth in Dorchester to stay active, Good Sports’ donation of more than $2,000 worth of basketball, baseball, volleyball and fitness equipment will allow the program to continue to support 200 at-risk youth, who otherwise would not have access to sports and fitness programs.
