Massachusetts College of Art and Design Student Lindsey Blight wins $5,000 in the Prince Pasta Art Contest

Prince® Pasta Awards Scholarship to Student Artist for Swan Boat creation made entirely out of pasta

Massachusetts College of Art & Design (MassArt) is pleased to announce that Sophomore Community Education Major Lindsey Blight has won a $5,000 scholarship from Prince® Pasta, one of America’s most beloved pasta brands.  As part of its 100th Anniversary celebration in 2013, Prince® Pasta invited students from MassArt's Studio Foundation class to participate in the Prince® Pasta Art Contest, running Wednesday, September 4th through Wednesday, October 2, 2013.  Four students created one-of-a-kind pasta art inspired by Boston landmarks including The Swan Boats in the Public Garden, the Leonard P. Zakim Bridge and The Paul Revere Statue in Boston’s North End (the original home of Prince® Pasta).  The public was invited to vote online for their favorite artwork throughout the course of the contest.

Lindsey Blight's Swan Boat creation won the day, earning the most public votes and earning Lindsey a $5,000 scholarship towards her continued art education.  Blight selected the Swan Boats for their elegance and beautiful design as much as for their rich history - "I thought about all the lives they've touched and was really inspired by how much character they add to the Public Garden", said Blight.  She was also drawn to the challenge of capturing their movement .  "The boats literally come alive as they hold passengers who have made memories on these boats for more than 100 years" she added.
