Sports Scene Dominates Boston Nightlife

Hailo’s First-Ever Hailo Taxi Meter Shows More Passengers Request Rides to Areas Dominated by Sports Bars than Anywhere Else

BOSTON, MASS. (October 24, 2013) – Hailo, the world’s highest-rated app-based taxi service, announced today the findings of its first-ever Hailo Taxi Meter, which measures Boston’s hottest destinations. The data reveals that the areas known for their sports bars were more requested for cab drop-offs than any other place in the city on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights in September. The data points to the eternal popularity of sports in Boston, particularly during a stretch in which the Red Sox, Patriots, and Bruins were all playing.

Four of five most requested drop-off areas are dominated by sports bars. According to Hailo data, the most visited spots were:

  1. Boylston Street, near Whiskey’s and the Pour House
  2. Stuart Street, near the W
  3. Northern Avenue, near Jerry Remy's Seaport, Temazcal Catina and Legal Harborside
  4. Lansdowne Street, near Fenway Park
  5. Seaport Boulevard, near Atlantic Beer Garden/Whiskey Priest

“This data is a compelling look at where Bostonians are spending their nights out and about,” said Vanessa Kafka, general manager of Hailo Boston. “Everyone knows that Bostonians are incredibly proud of their sports teams and track them closely. That pride, combined with the return of Boston’s student population, definitely meant plenty of business for our sports bars.”

This is the first Hailo Taxi Meter. In an effort to better understand passengers, trends and transportation needs in Greater Boston and beyond, Hailo will be releasing the meter on a quarterly basis.

Hailo is the world’s highest rated taxi app, founded in London by three taxi drivers. Passengers can hail a taxi with only two taps on their smartphones. Hailo only works with licensed taxi drivers, who are highly regulated. In Boston, for example, drivers are vetted through the Boston Police Department, meaning passengers can feel safe whenever they get into a Hailo cab. Hailo, which came to Boston last year, recently launched in Cambridge.
