In a recent ranking, Travel + Leisure Magazine gave the not-so-honorable title of 'America's Most Dangerous Bridge' to Storrow Drive Tunnel in Back Bay.
According to the article, the tunnel's issues stem from the a heavy upper deck that strains the structural beams. Repairs made within the last year have only been short-term fixes.
"Although nearly 60,000 cars cross this bridge heading west daily, few drivers may realize the condition of what’s beneath their tires," the article read. "The structure, which carries the road’s westbound lanes over the eastbound, has been deemed 'entirely insufficient' based on an evaluation formula used by government bridge inspectors."
An analysis of the Federal Highway Administration's 2012 data of about 700,000 bridges. The analysis took information such as average daily traffic and sufficiency rating into account.
The Revere Beach Parkway and an I-495 Northbound stretch over Amesbury also were ranked number 11 and 20 respectively.
