What New Toys Made it Into the Hall of Fame?

See which childhood favorites made the cut.

Chess and the rubber duckie were both inducted into the National Toy Hall of Fame on Thursday, joining such luminaries as the Bog Wheel, Star Wars action figures and the Easy-Bake Oven. The Hall of Fame is an online extension of The Strong, a group dedicated to studying play.

Long a mainstay in bathtubs across America, the rubber duckie had it's star turn on Sesame Street, where the character Ernie sang a paean to his squeaky little tub-time companion. The Rubber Duckie song was an anthem for toddlers in the 70's and 80's.

More recently, rubber ducks have made a wave in international water, as a 40-foot rubber duck from artist Florentijn Hofman has sailed through ports and rivers around the world.

Chess, meanwhile, has been played for centuries across the world. Grandmasters and world champions in Chess are regarded as national heroes, with the best in history—Bobby Fischer, Boris Spassky, Gary Kasparov—known around the world.

What do you think? Do rubber duckies and chess board belong in the toy hall of fame? What toy would you add? Tell us your thoughts in the comments section below.
