PHOTOS: J.P. Licks Opens on the Hill; Eyes Back Bay Location

Neighbors stopped by to celebrate the opening of the new Charles Street shop, and enjoyed some free cake.

Kids from the Hill House swarmed the new J.P. Licks at 150 Charles Street for the grand opening of the neighborhood's only ice cream parlor.

"The week it opened, we've been here everyday," said 10-year-old Jake Berger.

It officially opened on April 30, but people came together on Monday for a welcome celebration. All proceeds from the afternoon went to support the community center's scholarship fund.

"It's the best thing to happen to Beacon Hill and the kids," said Dani Urencio, a Hill House employee and mother to three kids who happily enjoyed the celebratory cake. "It's a great hangout."

Owner Vince Petryk said so far business has been good, and he enjoys the people in the neighborhood. He's been looking to open in Beacon Hill for years, he said, but only recently found the right location.

J.P. Licks is also planning to open in at least two other Boston locations - one of which includes a return to Back Bay. The shop closed due to high rent costs, but it is eyeing a new location near , Petryk said.
