Meeting on Copley Place Expansion Thursday

Simon Property Group as proposed several changes to the tower.

The Boston Redevelopment Authority has posted an upcoming meeting this for this week regarding plans for expansion of the existing Copley Place building in Back Bay.

The meeting of the Copley Citizens Advisory Committee is happening Thursday from 8 to 9:30 a.m. on the fourth floor of Copley Place Officer Tower 2.

Simon Property Group submitted revised plans to the Boston Redevelopment Authority for a 52-story skyscraper in Back Bay that replaces a previous plan for a 47-story skyscraper in the same spot at Copley Place.

A full report on the changes to the project are available here via the BRA website.

Some of the differences in the new proposal include the replacement of most of the originally-proposed condos with apartments. The first four floors of the proposed 569-feet tall building would be retail. Simon would renovate the Nieman Marcus store in the Copley Place complex.

The Boston Zoning Commission previously approved the 47-story Simon plan back in 2011. However, the project faced a great deal of opposition from locals at the time.
