Fashion's Night Out a huge success

The Back Bay was the place to be Thursday night during Fashion's Night Out, a celebration of fashion and shopping.

Thousands of people flooded the streets of the Back Bay Thursday night to celebrate Fashion's Night Out, a night of shopping and fun.

Newbury Street hosted Boston's biggest block party shutting down to traffic until 10 o'clock.  The only cars on the street were luxury cars on display from car mogul Herb Chambers.

Models walked a red carpet at a fashion show that kicked off the festivities at center stage set up at Newbury and Exeter Streets featuring looks from some of the areas hottest designers including Britt Ryan, Ted Baker of London and Marc Jacobs.

VIPs sipped cocktails from a lounge complete with white leather chairs built especially for Boston's biggest night out.

The buzz began with close to 6,000 "likes" on Facebook even before the party started.

The streets of the Back Bay came alive as the crowd enjoyed music from the bands Good Will& Them Apples, Cosmodrome and other great local musicians and street bands.

Over 100 retailers in the Back Bay tried to entice shoppers with goodies, giveaways, samples, cocktails and much more.  

Boston joined over 250 cities around the country and 18 countries around the world in what has become a night to remember.  

Vogue Magazine came up with the idea of a Fashion's Night Out in 2009 as a way to generate business for struggling retailers during a bad economy.
