The Boston Public Library Charts its Course

And more to know today, Jan. 22.

1. Library Plan: Boston Public Library is continuing its series of roundtables designed to offer updates and conversation about the library’s strategic plan, the BPL Compass. The next Compass Roundtable will take place on Wednesday, January 30, at 6 p.m. in the Commonwealth Salon of the Central Library in Copley Square. The focus will be on the Community Gathering principle.

2. Ice skating: The Boston Common Frog Pond is open daily for public ice skating throughout the season. Hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Mondays, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sundays. Admission is $5 for ages 14 and up and free for ages 13 and under. Skate rentals cost $5 for kids and $9 for adults.

3. ONEin3 Council members: Mayor Thomas Menino is looking for new members for his ONEin3 Council. The council is open to civic-minded individuals ages 20-34 who want to collaborate on projects designed to engage Boston’s young adult population. Applications are being accepted for the 24-member council through Jan. 25.

4. Wine festival: The Boston Harbor Hotel's 24th Annual Boston Wine Festival opened this month and runs through March 29 and features 39 festive evenings of wines, plus three themed brunches, scheduled each week. Prices range from $75 to $225. Tickets  for individual events during the festival are available online at bostonwinefestival.net/shop or by calling 888-660-WINE or local 617-330-9355.

5. Snow?: Despite the weekend predictions of a 24-hour snowstorm, Monday ended up mild and today's snow is forecast to wrap up by noon. It could, however, be a messy morning from heavy overnight snow.
