Two Rockland Men Charged with Bike Theft on Newbury Street

Boston Police Officers responded to a report of a larceny in progress on Newbury Street at 2:05 a.m. on November 15.

Upon arrival, officers reportedly observed two males who matched the given description headed down Boylston Street with a grey bicycle. The two men were stopped and brought before the witness, who identified them. The witness stated that they had observed the suspects with a bicycle with no front tire and had heard a popping sound, followed by the sound of a chain being shaken off the bicycle. The witness then stated that they observed the two men leave with the bicycle.

One of the suspects admitted to taking the bicycle. The two men were arrested and taken in to be booked. Officers observed one of the men moving around in the back seat of the cruiser and observed a white powder on the seat when they arrived at the station. Officers observed the man holding a bag of white powder thought to be cocaine. The suspect told the officers that the substance was fake.

While at the booking desk, officers discovered that one of the suspects had a pill bottle in his possession. The suspect’s name was on the bottle, however, the bottle contained various colors and types of pills. The other suspect was in possession of several pills as well.

Mathew and Ryan Manning of 1056 North Union Street, Rockland MA, were arrested and charged with larceny over $250, buying/receiving stolen goods, possession of a Class E substance and possession of a Class B substance.
