Writing 122: A Magazine Writing Workshop

On Saturday, January 26th, 2013 from 9:00AM to 4:00PM the Boston Center for Adult Education (BCAE) will hold its second annual Writing Symposium "Writing 122: A Magazine Writing Workshop" for recreational writers, emerging professionals or simply those wishing to make their writing skills as sharp as a No. 2 pencil. The day will feature a series of workshops led by the BCAE’s instructors, all notable writers and experts in their field, covering topics such as lifestyle, travel, food, and entertainment along with a lunch and keynote with special guest John Mariani of Esquire Magazine.

Each student will choose (2) three-hour workshops featuring an insider’s guide to the industry, a Q&A, and an assignment to be completed for review the second half of the class. In addition to learning the tricks of the trade, students will have an opportunity to have their work published in the second volume of 122, the BCAE’s print magazine featuring the original work of symposium instructors and students alike. For each section of the magazine, students will receive instruction, then draft and submit original content for their instructor’s review.  Students’ submissions will be reviewed and the top entries from each class will be selected and published.

2013 Workshops include:
Lifestyle Writing with Courtney Hollands of Boston magazine,
Travel Writing with David Abel of The Boston Globe
Business Writing with Kathleen Pierce, Contributor to The Boston Globe
Fashion Writing with Sarah Gaynes of The Boston Herald
Food Writing with Aaron Kagan of Eater Boston
Entertainment Writing with Scott Kearnan, Contributor to The Phoenix, Bay Windows, and more.

Writing 122  features John Mariani of Esquire Magazine as the lunchtime keynote speaker.
