Hingham "Murph Challenge" in Honor of Our Veterans Who Are in Need

In honor of all those who have served our country,  Reebok CrossFit Bare Cove, Wahlburgers, Hingham Veterans, Hingham Youth Football and the Hingham Sports Partnership have partnered to host an exciting fundraising event on Sunday, May 18th to benefit The New England Center for Homeless Veterans.  The Reebok CrossFit Bare  Cove community will be performing the “Murph” workout, which was created in memory of Navy Lieutenant
Michael Murphy who was killed in Afghanistan in 2005. Michael Murphy was portrayed in the movie Lone Survivor starring Mark Wahlberg, and the event will fittingly wrap up at Wahlburgers restaurant, now featured in the hit A&E reality show. Former Navy SEAL, Gabriel Gomez, will be the event’s honorary chair.

The “Murph,” in its purest form, starts off with a timed, one mile run followed by 100 pull-ups, 200 push-ups, 300 squats and an additional, timed, one-mile run to finish off. Don’t let this scare you off! Whether you’re an athlete, haven’t worked out in ages, or are somewhere in between, the event’s CrossFit coaches are trained to modify workouts for anyone by scaling reps, distances and movements appropriately to make sure ALL participants can safely take part in the event. They can also accommodate those with physical limitations.

There will be four heats, and the registration fee is $50. Participants are encouraged to have family, friends and businesses sponsor them by clicking on the "Make a Donation" part of the registration and entering the athlete’s name. Prizes will go to the athlete who raises the most money.  All proceeds will be donated to the New England Center for Homeless Veterans (NECHV Located in downtown Boston, NECHV offers housing - affordable apartments, transitional and emergency beds – for over 290 male and female Veterans each night. Each year, the Center serves over 130,000 residents with meals. NECHV also offers computer training, a career center, vocational training and health services.
