Marathon Monday: Free community day during the 2014 Boston Marathon

On Marathon Monday, April 21, The Mary Baker Eddy Library will host a free community day for visitors to Boston, Marathon participants, spectators, friends, and neighbors. On this day, the Library is offering special activities to contribute to Boston’s healing response to last year’s tragedy.

All Library spaces will be open free of charge from 10:00am to 4:00pm, including the world-famous  Mapparium®, built in 1935 as a symbol of a common shared humanity. The Library is beautiful and serene, with quiet places to sit and reflect, including the Hall of Ideas. Through a stunning combination of art, architecture, and cutting-edge technology, this space showcases ideas from all over the world, on subjects including courage, equality, community, freedom, and hope. Visitors are encouraged to explore exhibits about our namesake, Mary Baker Eddy, who was no stranger to adversity. Her life-story articulates a true message of hope that has inspired many for over a century.

As a special part of this day, activities for all ages will be available, including a sun-catcher craft and poetry activities. Each visitor will also be invited to to add to the Library’s ongoing interactive exhibit, Transcending Boundaries, with a message of hope for the city and the world.

Throughout the month of April, the Library will offer free admission to all Marathon runners and Boston Athletic Association staff, so that they may see what our community has created for this occasion. In the spirit of hope and healing, we invite you to stop in, find comfort for yourself and others, and celebrate the perseverance and strength of this great city.
