The New World Jazz Composers Octet Live

The widely acclaimed New World Jazz Composers Octet has been together for the past 12 years. The band has released three CDs, which have been highly praised in Jazz Times, DownBeat, Cadence Magazine, AllAboutJazz.com, and many other international publications.

The band's most recent CD, Breaking News, was selected on AllAboutJazz.com as one of the top 10 new releases. The band performs new music written by Ted Pease, Ken Schaphorst, Bob Freedman, Mike Abene, Matthew Nicholl, Edgar Dorantes, Richard Lowell, Jack Walrath, and many others.

The band was founded and is led by saxophonist and Berklee associate professor Daniel Ian Smith and features Tim Ray, Felipe Salles, Walter Platt, Tony D’Aveni, Ernesto Diaz, Keala Kaumeheiwa, and Mark Walker. The group will be a guest in residence at St. Michaels College, in Vermont, in March and is slated to be a featured act at the 2014 Discover Jazz Festival in Burlington, Vermont.
