Amtrak Train Strikes Truck in Mansfield, Service Delayed

Significant train delays Monday south of Boston.

An Amtrak train en route to Washington, D.C. struck a pickup truck Sunday night at the Gilbert Street Crossing in Mansfield. The train derailed after the crash.

The train was carrying 180 passengers, none were injured. A train conductor was evaluated for a head injury. 

Passengers were on the train for approximately four hours before being transferred to another train and transported to South Station. 

There have been no reports as to the extent of injuries to any of the occupants in the truck. 

Amtrak has canceled service from Boston to Providence until later today. 

MBTA commuter rail service, as of 7 a.m. Monday morning says the Providence/Stoughton trains are delayed 15 to 20 minutes because of single track operation between Attleboro and Mansfield due to the crash. They expect all trains on this line Monday to be delayed 15 to 20 minutes.
