Bicyclist Killed in Accident on Comm. Ave Thursday Morning

Police say the victim collided with a tractor trailer truck.

A 23-year-old bicyclist was struck and killed in an accident with a tractor trailor truck on Commonwealth Avenue on Thursday morning, according to the Boston Police Department.

The accident occurred at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday morning near St. Paul Street across the street from Boston University's Agganis Arena. Police said an 18-wheeler truck was making a right-hand turn onto St. Paul Street when the cyclist and the truck collided.

Police have not released the name of the man killed in the crash.

Commonwealth Avenue is currently shut down for all vehicle traffic east bound from Pleasant street to Saint Paul Street, according to the BU Police Department.

Police said the homicide unit is investigating the death, as well as Suffolk District Attorney Daniel F. Conley's office.

The fatal bike accident is the second in several weeks to occur in the BU/Allston area of Commonwealth Avenue, and occured just hours before a bicycle safety hearing at city hall.

Wow, another one.... less than a mile from the harvard ave fatality.... Again, it just makes me think about going through THAT intersection as well....sometimes taking risks i shouldn't have, other times dealing with inattentive drivers....it can be crazy out there.... STAY SAFE BOSTON BICYCLISTS. (seriously lets make this the last one...of 2012 at least....)

Nicely said hunter . . . "BICYCLES DO HAVE RIGHTS" but that doesn't provide much comfort on a head stone. "He Had The Right of WAY" . . . a helmet doesn't offer much protection when you slam head first into the side of a truck! It is very noteworthy that the only sets of trolly tracks to have itzy bitzy caution signs are in the university areas! One would think if smart enough to get into college, one would not need to die texting or racing on a bicycle. WE ARE NOT INVULNERABLE!
