Boston Man Charged with Stealing Scooter on Newbury Street

Boston Police Officers observed two men leaning down in front of two locked scooters on Newbury Street at 2:24 a.m. on December 3. When officers circled back, they observed that the scooters were gone and one front wheel was still attached to the lock, which was secured to a sign. A broken Master lock lay on the sidewalk with a bolt next to it.

Officers began to canvas the area when they spotted the same tow males, one riding a scooter, on walking next to the driver on Newbury Street near Hereford Street. The suspect on foot took off when he noticed the officer. He was apprehended on Newbury Street.

The second suspect was seen heading down Newbury Street at the intersection of Hereford Street going the wrong way on the stolen scooter wearing all black and a backpack. Officers were unable to catch the fleeing motorist.

Officers were able to locate the scooter with the missing tire near Gloucester Street, which was towed by Robert’s Towing.

John Barnes of 220 Huntington Avenue was arrested and charged with larceny of over $250.
