Thousands of firefighters and police officers from across the state and the nation were on hand Tuesday for Walsh’s wake, honoring one of their own who died in the line of duty.

Walsh was killed last Wednesday, along with fellow firefighter Michael Kennedy when the pair became trapped in the basement of the four-story brownstone.

Lt. Walsh was from Engine Company 33; Firefighter Kennedy was with Ladder Company 15.

Firefighter Kennedy’s wake will be held later today at the P.E. Murray Funeral Home, 2000 Centre St. in West Roxbury, from 2:30 to 8 p.m. General public viewing hours for Kennedy’s wake will be from 4 to 8 p.m. His funeral Mass is Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Church of the Holy Name, 1689 Centre St., West Roxbury.

The investigation into the source of the fire is ongoing. Fire officials were looking into the possibility that the building’s heating system sparked the blaze. They are also reviewing the structure’s electrical system. Arson has been ruled out as a cause of that fire.
