Police: Man Broke into Car on Newbury Street

A man broke into a car on Newbury Street in broad daylight.

Boston Police responded to a report of a person breaking into a car at about 4:08 p.m. on Sunday, August 4 on Newbury Street.

Officers arrived on the scene and spoke to the victim, who said that he observed a man breaking into a vehicle near 429 Newbury Street. When the victim confronted the suspect, the suspect became violent and threatened to stab him with a screwdriver, which he reportedly held in his left hand.

The victim told police that the suspect got away from him and headed inbound on Newbury Street and took a right on to Massachusetts Avenue. Officers put out the description of the suspect to no avail. The victim had an abrasion on his elbow, which was treated by EMS.

Officers found the car, which had a broken rear window and two bags sitting next to it. The victim told police that the bags belonged to the suspect. Officers found a glass breaker in one of the bags and took the bags as evidence. Robert’s Towing towed the car for safekeeping.
