Police: Man Struck Woman with a Brick on Mass. Ave.

The suspect claimed that he did not mean to hit the victim with the brick.

The following information was supplied by the Boston Police Department. Charges listed do not indicate convictions.

Boston Police responded to a report of an assault and battery in progress on Massachusetts Avenue near Clearway Street at about 12:23 p.m. on August 7.

Officers arrived on scene and found the victim bleeding profusely from the head. When asked what happened, the victim pointed to a man and said, “he threw a brick at me and it hit me in the head.”

Pre-Miranda rights, the suspect said, “I threw the brick, but I was throwing it at someone else, I didn’t mean to hit her.” The suspect pointed to a piece of a brick lying on the sidewalk.

The officer then read the suspect his Miranda rights. The suspect said, “This started across from the Dunkin Donuts on Mass. Ave. I was trying to help her out, some guy was dragging her away to do bad things to her and I was just trying to help. I didn’t mean to hit her with the brick.”

EMS arrived on scene and transported the victim to Boston Medical.

Officers charged Jerome Spencer of 30 Hemenway Street with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
