Boylston Street Reopens after Bomb Squad Clears Suspicious Package

Street reportedly being shut down due to police activity.

UPDATE, 3:30 p.m.: A spokeswoman for the Forum restaurant told the Boston Herald the suspicious package turned out to be an empty FedEx box in the vicinity of the establishment.

Also, a sign on the door of the Starbucks next to the Forum said they would be Wednesday at 3:45 p.m. 

UPDATE, 2:30 p.m.
: Police have reopened Boylston Street between Fairfield Street and Exeter Street after a report of a suspicious package in the area.

The focus of activity appeared to be around 755 Boylston St. and not 775 Boylston St. as we originally reported. The building at 755 Boylston is home to the Forum restaurant and Starbucks.

The Boston Police Bomb Squad were gathering their gear and working the clear the scene when a Patch editor arrived in the area just after 2 p.m. Wednesday.

Forum, which was badly damaged by the second of two bomb blasts in April 15's Boston Marathon bombings, is slated to reopen next week after being closed since the bombings.

: Police responded Wednesday afternoon to reports of a suspicious package on Boylston Street near the Prudential Center

Alert New England, a Twitter account that tracks public safety information, said the Boston Police bomb squad was activated for a suspicious package in the area of 775 Boylston St.. The major artery was shut down as police investigated. By 2:20 p.m., the scene was cleared by law enforcement and Boylston was re-opened to traffic.
