Hubway Passes 1 Million Rides

Boston's bicycle share service has been in operation since July 2011.

Boston’s popular citywide bicycle share program has cleared a major milestone in just two years of operation.

Hubway cleared 1 million rides over the weekend of July 13, according to a press release from the city of Boston.

Brooke Savage, a resident of Boston and annual member since 2012, took the 1 millionth ride after she checked out a bike from Washington Street at Waltham Street at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 13 and docked it about 10 minutes later at Franklin Street / Arch Street, according to the statement.

More than 8,100 active members access the fleet of 1,100 bikes through the 113 station system which includes locations in Brookline, Boston, Cambridge and Somerville. To date, Hubway members have collectively traveled approximately 1.1 million miles, burned nearly 40 million calories and offset an estimated 285 tons of CO2. With over 41,000 rides flowing through its docks, more trips begin and end at South Station than any other. Hubway currently averages more than 3,800 trips per day, system-wide, and July 12, 2013 holds the record for the highest daily usage, with 5,216 trips taken.  

Hubway was launched in Boston July 28, 2011.

According to their map, Hubway has stations in and around Back Bay at: Boylston Street at Arlington Street, Boylston Street at Berkeley Street, the Boston Public Library, Boylston Street at Fairfield Street, Newbury Street at Hereford Street, Back Bay/South End Station, Prudential Center/Belvidere, Beacon Street at Mass Ave. and Boylston Street at Mass Ave.
