Mass.gov Tweet: 'Sexual Assault is Always Avoidable'

The tweet was deleted and a top state official apologized.

A top state official on Thursday apologized for a @Mass.gov tweet that claimed "sexual assault is always avoidable."

@Mass.gov is the Twitter handle for the state government website.

Boston.com reported the tweet outraged advocates for sexual assault victims.

The tweet was posted Wednesday night and deleted Thursday morning.

Geoffrey Kula, the state's digital marketing director, tweeted an apology: "I deeply regret the message sent last night regarding sexual assault and apologize to all sexual assault victims. We in no way meant to suggest that victims of sexual assault are to blame for the crimes committed against them."
