Boston's longest-serving Mayor Thomas Menino has tapped writer Jack Beatty to assist him in writing his memoirs scheduled for release next spring.

“It’s a story of my 20 years as mayor, the things we’ve dealt with, and the changes we’ve seen,” Menino told Boston.com.

Beatty, a senior editor for The Atlantic, also won the 1993 American Book Award for "The Rascal King: The Life and Times of James Michael Curley."

The book is to be published by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt.
